Gandy-Sun Bay South is a neighborhood in the southwestern most portion within the city limits of Tampa, Florida, on the western end of the Interbay Peninsula. The neighborhood boundaries are Manhattan Avenue to Tampa Bay and everything south of the old east-west railroad track north of McCoy Street. Established in 1885 as an offshoot of Tampa’s main port several miles away holds an area rich in history. An abundance of affordable new construction was created during the mid 2000 housing boom. Large multifamily communities as well as single family cul de sacs are now intertwined with the original Florida Architectural style bungalows on shady brick streets. The Gandy-Sun Bay South residential neighborhood boundaries are Gandy Boulevard to the north, Tampa Bay to the west, Interbay Boulevard/Everett Avenue/Tampa Bay to the south, and MacDill Avenue to the east. The two areas flow into one another.The showpiece of the neighborhood is Picnic Island Park with breathtaking views across the Bay. It encompasses 7.8 acres of sandy beach access. Enjoy a day in the sun and on the beach, go canoeing, picnicking, run through miles of trails, fishing from the pier or escape and explore Picnic Island Bayou.
