Ballast Point is located on the west side of Hillsborough Bay, just north of MacDill Air Force Base. Also located in the area is Ballast Point Park which dates back to Tampa’s earliest days. The neighborhood has walkways along the water and quick access to Bayshore Boulevard for jogging, walking, or rollerblading along the seawall. The community was annexed by Tampa in 1953 and has experienced economic and industrial growth since the construction of MacDill Field in the 1950s. Ballast Point offers varied housing possibilities ranging from condominiums to elegant single-family historic homes on sites that range from inland lots to oak-shaded waterfront estates.
